| In the Irish legend of Cuchullain, when a boy called Setanta accidentally kills the hound of Cullain, the chief blacksmith at the court of King Conchobar, he promises that from that day onward he himself would act as the hound of Cullain, named 'Cu chullain' (translation: hound of Cullain). Our beautiful first afghan hound, Banba was named after an Irish queen, one of the three queens, Banba, Fotla and Eire, that ruled Ireland before the arrival of the Celts. The name Cubanba is inspired by these two Irish legends, and adapted from the Irish word cubhanba meaning 'hound of Banba'. This is to signifiy that we do not own Banba, she is not our hound - she is a queen and we promise to be her hounds forever.... |
